Hello together !!
First of all we’d like to thank you all for the many “get well” wishes …… it worked….I’m fine and Frank’s getting there too 🙂
Our week was filled with some work, a lot of weather and …finally….the visit we’ve been waiting for, for so long…..from the ……
Wiring Inspector
Monday morning came and we got the call he’d be there in the afternoon. Frank picked him up down at the road and while they were waiting for our electrician to join them, Frank started to tell him about what had happened and why we already had installed the system and it turned out the guy knew about the whole story.
They all drove up to our place then and while Frank showed him the solar system, all of the hardware, hook ups and everything else he’d done, the inspector asked a couple of questions, took some notes, made a couple of remarks and after about an hour looked at Frank and said : “ You know, I came here knowing that you’d installed everything yourself without any knowledge of the basics of systems like this and that really gave me a headache, as I’ve seen this before and it was never good…..but I have to admit this is the best home made installation I’ve ever inspected. The only thing missing is the screen behind the panels, but that’s nothing major. Just finish that before I come the next time to have a look at the rough installation in the house. Otherwise that’s it for the solar construction”.
Our jaw dropped and we couldn’t believe it, but he gave us the report sheet and here’s the proof
He really liked Franks finished and vented battery box and the neatly installed wires.
No transformer necessary, no poles (he’s fine with the underground culvert), he doesn’t even want laminated installation plans…..only a piece of paper in the house at the fuse box, saying where the main breaker for the panels is!
So, it’s a “go” now for the house, as he liked what he saw there and just said to continue on with what we’re doing and everything should be fine……..we like the sound of that 🙂
Woodwork
Frank would have loved to go on wiring right away but he still has to finish the bed, as the customer expects it to be ready next week.
So Frank was scribing and chiseling so the framing boards would fit perfectly
Now we just have to finish sanding it and give it a clear coat for protection and it should be ready in time
Weather
I don’t even know how to describe the weather we had in the past week. It was almost a daily change from one extreme to the other and Emmy and I are always on the lookout for something interesting….even if we have to get into the lake for the right shot (so happy for my insulated boots 😉 )
Beginning of the week it had warmed up but was quite windy, so the thin layer of ice on the lake began to break up and was pushed away by the wind……which made on side of the lake still frozen and little waves on the other side
But what really baffled me was the ice on the shore line. The day before nothing had been there and now every little branch and plant was covered in a thick coat of crystal clear ice. I’ve never seen anything so stunning and couldn’t stop taking photos……so this is quite an extensive slideshow……but I really hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do
I also found some puddles that were frozen and just looked wonderful too
Over night the lake surface froze up again and you could find these beautiful structures on the thin layer of ice
And then we got this massive nor’easter on Thursday with some 10 in. of real heavy snow which bent down branches almost to the breaking point and although even the day after was really overcast….you can just appreciate how beautiful it even looks then
Coming to the end
It’s such a relief things worked out with the inspector of the power company and with the bed finished too, we should finally be able to focus on working in the house again full time……going to feel good to get moving again 🙂

25. Maerz 2018 – Was Lange Dauert Wird Endlich Gut !
Hallo Zusammen!!
Als Erstes moechten wir uns ganz herzlich fuer die vielen “Gute Besserung” Wuensche bedanken…..und funktioniert hat’s auch…..mir geht’s prima und Frank ist auch fast wieder der “Alte” 😉
Diese Woche gab es bei uns ….. etwas Arbeit, viel “Wetter” und endlich den Besuch, auf den wir nun schon so lange gewartet hatten…..vom
Strom Inspektor
Montag Morgen kam der Anruf, dass er am Nachmittag erscheinen wuerde. Frank war dann also zur verabredeten Zeit unten an unserem Tor und als die beiden auf unseren Elektriker gewartet hatten, wollte Frank die Zeit schonmal nutzen, um ihm zu erklaeren, warum wir das System schon installiert und am Laufen haben, da stellte sich heraus, dass der gute Mann schon darueber informiert war!
Sie sind dann alle zusammen zu uns hochgefahren und Frank zeigte ihm dann die ganzen Installationen und Leitung und erklaerte wie und wo alles funktionierte, waehrend der Pruefer sich alles genau ansah, hin und wieder ein paar Fragen stellte und Notizen machte. Nach knapp einer Stunde waren sie soweit durch und da sah der Pruefer Frank an und meinte : “Ich mach das ja schon eine ganze Weile und als ich gehoert hatte, dass ich zu einer von den selbstinstallierten Anlagen muss, hab ich ziemliche Bauschschmerzen bekommen, weil es mir immer die Haare zu Berge stehen laesst, was sich die Leute da so einfallen lassen und zusammenbauen. Ich muss aber gestehen, dass ich sehr angenehm ueberrascht bin, denn dies ist wohl eine der besten und ordentlichsten Arbeiten, die ich je gesehen habe! Bis auf den fehlenden Gitterschutz hinter den Panelen, ist alles in bester Ordnung. Beheb das einfach, bis ich naechstes Mal fuer die Inspektion der Grundinstallation im Haus vorbeikomme. Aber, mit dem Solaranlagensystem bin ich durch”. Sprachs und fuellte gleich den genehmigten Pruefbericht aus ! Wie cool ist das denn 🙂
Er war auch ganz angetan von Frank’s verschliessbaren und beluefteten Batteriekasten
Wir brauchen keinen Transformator, keine Strompfeiler, noch nicht mal eine Ueberlandleitung, wir koennen das bereits eingegrabene Leerrohr verwenden, keine laminierten Lageplaene erstellen, lediglich einen Zettel in den Sicherungskasten, wo der Notausschalter fuer die Panele zu finden ist.
So, kann es also endlich mit der Verkablung im Haus weitergehen, denn er sah dort auch nach und meinte, wir sollten einfach weitermachen wie bisher, dann gibt’s da auch keine Problem…..na, das hoeren wir doch gern 🙂 !
Holzarbeiten
Gerne haette Frank gleich losgelegt und weiter verkabelt, aber erstmal muss das Bett fertig werden, denn der Kunde will es naechste Woche haben.
So war er dann also mit Anzeichnen, Ausbeiteln und Anpassen des Rahmens und der Kopfstuetze beschaeftigt.
Nun muss es nur noch geschliffen und gelackt werden und sollte dann rechtzeitig fertig werden.
Wetter
Ich weiss gar nicht, wie man das Wetter in der vergangenen Woche beschreiben sollte, denn es war jeden Tag ein anderes Bild von einem Extrem ins Andere. Emmy und ich, die wir immer auf der Suche nach etwas Besonderem sind, sind also voll auf unsere Kosten gekommen…auch wenn man fuer’s richtige Foto man hin und wieder ins eisige Wasser muss (zum Glueck mit gefuetterten Gummistiefeln 😉 )
Anfang der Woche war es jedenfalls etwas waermer, aber ziemlich windig, so das die duenne Eisschicht auf dem See aufbrach und vom Wind zusammengetrieben wurde……was dann dazu fuehrte, das eine Seite noch angefroren und die andere offen war .
Was mich aber richtig umgehauen hat, waren die Eisstrukturen am Ufer. Am Tag zuvor war da noch nichts gewesen und nun war jeder Zweig und jedes Blatt mit einer kristallklaren, dicken Eisschicht umgeben. Sowas habe ich so noch nie gesehen und konnte gar nicht aufhoeren, Fotos zu schiessen……dies ist also eine ziemlich umfangreiche Fotosammlung (obwohl ich soooo viele Fotos ausgemustet habe 😉 ) …..aber ich hoffe mal, das sie Euch genau so gut gefallen, wie mir
Dann gab es noch die angefrorenen Pfuetzen mit ihren filigranen Formen und Mustern
Ueber Nacht wurde es wieder kalt und die Seeoberflaeche fror wieder leicht an und man fand ueberall diese schoenen Strukturen auf dem duennen Eis
Am Donnerstag hatten wir dann diesen massiven Schneesturm aus Nord/Ost, der uns fast 25 cm richtig schweren Schnee bescheerte und die Aeste der Baeume und Buesche fast bis auf die Erde druecke und obwohl es auch am naechsten Tag sehr bedeckt war, kann man der Schoenheit der Natur trotzdem etwas abgewinnen
Wir kommen zum Ende
Das uns nach dem Besuch des Strom Inspektors eine wahre Lawine vom Herzen gefallen ist, waere noch untertrieben 😉 Nun also nur noch das Bett fertigbekommen und dann geht’s mit Volldampf ans Verkabeln im Haus………tut so gut, endlich wieder weitermachen zu koennen 🙂
