Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version
Can’t believe another weeks over………didn’t accomplish all we wanted but did make a huge step forward on the main “three things to do” list ………..which is now the “two things to do” list as getting in the foundation for the floor is ✔ 🙂
But first we had to move Erna (our crane) which we did a day before as she does have her quirks and you never know what’ll happen if you try…….but she must have gotten the urgency of the situation, only had a couple of hick ups on the way and even decided to drive backwards on her own a couple of times…..all teamwork down here 😉
Then the lower logs had to be covered to be protected when the concrete was poured.
And the huge roof trusses had to be moved which, after we got the hang of it, wasn’t a problem either
My worries that the heavy cement trucks might have a problem getting up the steep quarry road diminished when I saw them rolling in at the break of dawn.
Much to our surprise and great pleasure the contractor showed up with a bunch of guys who know the job and for the first time since we’ve started this project we were sidelined and just watched
But they got the job done quickly and as soon as the concrete started drying , two of them stayed and kept on “polishing” and cleaning the surface and by afternoon all was set’n done !
Know we just have to wait for it to dry out and then we have a floor !
Porch
During the week Frank had also set up the beams for the front side of the house and sanded down all the “post” logs.
And to take some measurements set up some boards but it lets you get an idea what it will look like
Things to do in Nova Scotia
Last weekend Frank got a little sad thinking about the Pumpkin Regatta taking place without him…..besides really not having time for that, he had asked around before and this year our friends who provided the pumpkins before weren’t growing any this year.
But he’s hoping for next year and then he’ll be out there trying to win that thing again like 2013. We did post a blog about that a while ago, but here are also some pics if you’d like to have a look
Clouds and more
Of course I got to catch some nice clouds and sunsets with my little camera
But my absolute favorite this week is the early morning pic I got when I drove into Mahone Bay and the sun was just rising about the cove

Animals of the week
As you can see……….this isn’t an animal 😉 I found this when I took the ATV down to get our mail and wondered about that really red color the pile had. Curious as I am I took a little branch and started to dissect the pile of poop (I know….not what you usually do 😉 ) as I couldn’t figure out want the big pieces in it were.
Turns out somebody in the area had a really nice shrimp dinner with fava beans……..the red tone came from the shrimps and I also found all of the tails and the beans.
So think about this: there must not even be food around…..if the animal scents human, it thinks there will also be food and follow that scent……….and that might be the moment you’re on a hike and run into bear, coyote or whatever , who don’t think the human IS food, but he definitely must have something to eat on him. You don’t really want that……….so please………take your leftovers home with you or discard them properly 😉
Now to something really nice we saw up in a tree not far from the camper……what a shame I don’t have a “real” camera…..but I’m sure you’ll notice what it is 🙂

Well, that’s it for this week from us here……….and although we’re expecting some rain for the upcoming week, we do hope to make some progress on the porch and the hopefully get started on the roof.

Deutsche Version
22. Okt. 2017 – Alles ueber unser Fundament, Pfosten und Futter……in anderer Form als gewohnt
Wir koennen nicht glauben, dass schon wieder eine Woche vorbei ist…….haben nicht alles erreicht, was wir uns wollten, konnten aber von unserer “Drei Dinge muessen noch erledigt werden” Liste, den Punkt “Fussbodenfundament” endlich abhaken 🙂
Dazu musste aber erstmal die Erna (unser Kran) dazu gebracht werden, sich zu bewegen und sie muss die Dringlichkeit der Situation erkannt haben, weil sie, bis auf ein wenig “Starthilfe”, willig war, sich diesmal von allein auch rueckwaerts zu bewegen……..echte Teamarbeit hier bei uns 😉
Dann erstmal die Staemme abkleben zum Schutz vor evt. hochspritzendem Zement
Die riesigen Dachkonstruktionsteile mussten auch aus dem Weg und nachdem wir herausgefunden hatten, wie’s am besten geht, war das auch Ratzfatz erledigt
Meine Bedenken, dass die Zement LKW’s Probleme bekommen wuerden, die steile Zufahrt ueber die Kiesgrube hochzukommen, schwanden, als sie waehrend des Sonnenaufgangs die Einfahrt hochrollten.
Wir standen schon zum Zupacken parat, als, zu unserer grossen Ueberraschung und noch groesseren Freude, der Verantwortliche fuer das Fundamentgiessen, mit einer ganzen Truppe von Leuten eintraf, die genau wussten was zu tun war und so standen wir beide zum ersten Mal seit Beginn dieses Projekts am Rande des Geschehens und schauten zu
Die haben dann auch durchgezogen, bald war der Beton angetrocknet und zwei der Mitarbeiter blieben da und polierten die Oberflaeche super glatt…..kurz nach Mittag war alles erledigt.
Nun muessen wir nur drauf warten, dass alles schoen durchtrocknet und dann haben wir einen Fussboden !
Terrasse
Innerhalb der Woche hat Frank noch die Bodenbalken fuer die vordere Terrasse fertig verlegt und alle Staemme, die als Pfosten dienen werden, geschliffen
Um dann alles zu vermessen, hat er ein paar Bretter aufgestellt…….aber, es gibt einem schon einmal eine Idee, wie’s werden wird.
Dinge, die man in Nova Scotia tun kann
Das letzte Woche die Kuerbis Regatta ohne Frank stattfand, hat ihn schon ein wenig traurig gestimmt, aber neben dem Problem, dass er dafuer gar keine Zeit gehabt haette, war es auch so, dass unsere Freunde, die ihm sonst den Kuerbis zur Verfuegung gestellt hatten, in diesem Jahr gar keine gezogen hatten.
Aber, er hofft, im kommenden Jahr vlt. wieder die Moeglichkeit zu bekommen, seinen Titel von 2013 zu verteidigen 😉 Falls Ihr ein wenig mehr dazu sehen moechtet, wir hatten vor einer Weile dazu auch mal einen Blog geschrieben
Wolken und mehr
Natuerlich habe ich auch wieder mit meiner kleinen Kamera ein paar schoene Wolken , Sonnenuntergaenge und mehr erwischt
Aber mein absolutes Lieblingsfoto fuer diese Woche, ist das hier, das ich aufgenommen habe, als ich ganz frueh morgens nach Mahone Bay reingefahren bin und die Sonne dort gerade ueber der Bucht aufging
Tiere der Woche
Wie Ihr sehen koennt, handelt es sich nicht gerade um ein Tier 😉 Ich habe es gesehen, als ich mit dem ATV zum Briefkasten runtergefahren bin und es fiel mir wegen des auffaelligen roten Tons auf. Natuerlich musste ich es dann gleich mit einem Stoeckchen sezieren (ja, ich weiss, tut man normalerweise nicht 😉 ) , denn ich konnte mir weder die Farbe, noch die Stuecke erklaeren, die ich sah.
Tja, irgendjemand in der Gegend muss lecker Krabben mit Bohnen zum Mittag gehabt haben…..das Rot kam also aus den Farbpigmenten der Krabben und das andere waren die grossen Bohnen.
Leute, tut uns Allen doch bitte einen Gefallen………..bitte lasst Essensreste nicht im Wald liegen, selbst, wenn kein Haus in der Naehe ist…..die Reste haben einen menschlichen Duft an sich, die Tiere gewoehnen sich daran und assoziieren dann Menschenduft automatisch mit Fressen.
Ergo: Es muss noch nicht einmal Essen in der Naehe sein……….man ist im Wald spazieren und steht auf einmal einem Baeren, Fuchs, Wildschwein o. a. entgegen, die Futter suchen, einfach, weil sie “Mensch” gerochen haben und der Geruch steht dafuer, dass irgendwo etwas Essbares sein muss….und das braucht man doch nicht wirklich 😉
Und hier noch etwas, das gar nicht weit vom Camper auf einer Baumspitze sass……wie schade, dass ich keine “richtige” Kamera habe …….aber, Ihr erkennt bestimmt, was das sein soll
Naja, und wenn ein Bullmastiff denkt, sie kann “fliegen”, dann endet das meist im Wasser
So, das war’s dann erstmal wieder fuer diese Woche von uns hier……und obwohl es kommende Woche etwas regnen soll, hoffen wir, dass wir an der Terrasse ein paar Fortschritte vorweisen koennen und hoffentlich auch mit dem Dach begonnen haben werden!
