Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version

Hope you and your families are doing well and standing strong!!
This brings me back to my initial question….have you ever thought about getting out of the city, living on a lake in the woods, away from neighbors and bylaws, sitting outside by the fireplace, enjoying nature, eating smores with your family and hitting the hay in your cottage, or tiny home? Secretly admiring people who live like that and probably don’t even know how good of a life they’re living?
Well, let me tell you something…..you’re right…it’s a great life!
But….yes, there’s always a “but”….it comes at a price….and I’m not necessarily talking about money or endless hours of work to get there, but also taking matters in your own hands and doing your due diligence!
What I mean by this…I’m in a couple of these “off grid” groups on Facebook. Not because I’m bored and have too much time on my hands, but rather because each now and then there are some really interesting posts where you can get good ideas or insights in new developments to everything off-grid related.
Since our “new normal” started there are also more and more people getting on those sites asking for advice and don’t get me wrong….it’s always great to ask questions and learn from people who’ve done it and can save you some time and effort with some things!
And of course I completely understand that there are people being sick and tired of their lives and thinking that getting out there living off the grid in a tiny home is just the dream come true situation and want to pursue it!
Some of them even already bought properties, but then….ups…how go on from there…oh, yeah, let’s go on Facebook and ask the others (and yes, this is from a real post!)
No, I’m not kidding…..posts like these are popping up more and more and I’m even more fascinated by how many people take their time to answer to this, than the person posting it!
“Hi, I just found this group and I need help.
I don’t want to live in the city anymore. I got a loan from my bank and bought a piece of property and want to build a tiny home there. I also quit my job because my boss and collogues hate me and I’m sick and tired of getting pushed around.
So, now I have this property and have to get a tiny home on it as quick as possible because I need a place to live in the winter.
How do I do something like this? And what kind of skills do I need to live off grid. Also, how do I earn money out there?
Please help me so I won’t have to bury my dream and can survive the winter”
Don’t get me wrong I’m all about supporting a person in need or if they have questions….but….hey, I don’t even know where the person lives…so what kind of a tiny house they’ll need. I mean Arizona needs something else than the Yukon. How can I give advice about bylaws, if I’m from a different province or even country? And asking how to earn money….I mean….for real ?!
Then also for some reason most people think “tiny home” equals “cheap and easy way of building”. Well, it can, but again, all depends on what you want, are you able to build it yourself, which standards are you used to?!
We’ve lived in a tiny home for almost 12 years (no, not the little cabin above 😉 ) and learned quickly that it can become rather costly, because with a tiny home, you don’t grab things “off the shelf” there’s a lot of custom built interior necessary and if you’re not a handyman…..it’s gonna cost you!
If you want to do the “off-grid thing” alone it’s hard! For us it was a team effort….still is to this day!
To wrap it up….I get that people want to change their lives, live their dreams, have more quality times with their family and friends and it’s okay to have questions and ask for advice….but, you really first have to put in some thoughts yourself, do research, ask yourself what you really want and need and do your due diligence!
Because others can help you….but as for every situation in life…. you’re responsible for the outcome!!
If it doesn’t work, you can’t blame others if you rather chose to go the path with the least resistance and only rely on what others said!
Also what a lot of us forget :
So, don’t forget….“please” and “thank you”…..little words with huge impact 😉

Well, I’m not about to say “thanks” to this little guy…
I understand that he tries to get into the bird feeder and also that he likes to have a warm and cozy place for the winter….but hey….pulling out our sheep wool insulation…. We’ll have a serious conversation about this 😉
Did you know that in the old days when they didn’t have survey sticks or markers they actually took advantage of other options, like the ones here… nope, these are not marks from bears scratching the trees. We found that while walking down what we thought was our property line and sure enough it’s the property line! In the old days they used to take an axe or knife and mark trees and these marks served as property boundary signs

29. Nov. 2020 – Habt Ihr auch schon einmal vom Leben im Wald an einem See getraeumt?
Hallo Zusammen,
Hoffe, Euch und Euren Familien geht’s gut und Ihr lasst Euch vom Leben nicht unterkriegen !!
Das bringt mich nun auch zum Titel zurueck….habt Ihr jemals davon getraeumt aus der Stadt rauszukommen, im Wald an einem See zu wohnen, weg von Nachbarn und Vorschrift, draussen am Lagerfeuer, die Natur geniessend, Wuerstchen am Feuer roesten mit Euren Familien und Freunden und die Nacht dann in Eurem Haus oder “tiny home” gemuetlich zu verbringen? In Gedanken die Menschen ein wenig Beneiden, die so leben und gar nicht wissen, wie gut sie’s haben?
Also, lasst mich mal Eines dazu sagen….Ihr habt Recht…es ist ein tolles Leben!
Aber, ja, wie immer gibt’s ein “Aber”…im Leben gibt’s nichts umsonst…und ich spreche nicht unbedingt nur vom Geld, oder den endlosen Arbeitsstunden die diese Leben zusaetzlich erfordert, sondern auch, dass es bedeutet im Vorfeld Dinge selbst in die Hand zu nehmen, um dieses Leben zu ermoeglichen.
Was ich damit meine ist Folgendes:
Ich bin in ein paar dieser “Off-Grid” Facebook Gruppen. Nicht weil ich vor lauter Langeweile nichts mit mir anzufangen weiss, sondern weil dort hin und wieder mal ein paar wirklich interessante Posts mit wissenswerten Details zu dieser Art des Lebens und technischen Neuerungen, eingestellt werden.
Seitdem nun aber das weltweite “neues Normal” angefangen hat, kommen mehr und mehr Leute auf diese Seiten die um Rat fragen. Nee, nee, bekommt das jetzt nicht in den falschen Hals….es ist super Fragen zu stellen und von Menschen zu lernen, die schon Erfahrung haben und die Einem Zeit und Fehler zu machen ersparen koennen! Gar nichts Falsch damit, im Gegenteil!
Und natuerlich verstehe ich auch, dass die Menschen teilweise ihre Lebensweise satt haben und denken, dass sie das was ihnen fehlt beim off-grid Leben in einem Tiny Haus wiederfinden koennten und diesen Traum gern verwirklichen wollen!
Manche haben sogar schon Grundstuecke gekauft, aber dann…ups…wie geht’s eigentlich weiter….ach, was soll’s gehen wir mal zu “Onkel Facebook” und fragen, was zu tun ist (und ja, das Folgende ist einer der vielen Posts, die dort inzwischen zuhauf zu finden sind)
“Hallo, ich habe gerade die Gruppe gefunden und brauche Hilfe.
Ich wollte nicht mehr in der Stadt wohnen, also habe ich mir einen Kredit genommen , ein Stueck Land gekauft und will nun ein Tiny Haus bauen. Ich hab auch noch meinen Job gekuendigt, weil mein Chef und meine Kollegen mich hassen und ich es leid bin immer nur herumgeschubst zu werden.
Nun habe ich also das Grundstueck und muss so schnell wie moeglich dieses Tiny Haus raufbekommen, weil ich einen Platz brauche, wo ich im Winter leben kann.
Wie faengt man sowas an? Was muss ich eigentlich fuer so ein Leben Off-Grid wissen, brauche ich dafuer irgendwelche Kenntnisse? Ausserdem, wie kann man Geld verdienen wenn man Off-Grid lebt?
Bitte, helft mir, damit ich meinen Traum nicht begraben muss und den Winter ueberstehen kann.”
Nein, das ist kein Scherz! Posts wie diese sind nun Alltag und kommen aus der ganzen Welt, aber was mich fast noch mehr fasziniert ist die Tatsache, wie viele Menschen auf diese Post eingehen und antworten!
Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich bin die Erste die da steht und hilft, wenn Hilfe gebraucht wird, oder jemand Fragen hat…aber, ich kapier es nicht….ich weiss nicht wo die Person lebt, also, was fuer eine Art Haus brauchen die eigentlich….denn ob Arizona oder Yukon….da sind die Prioritaeten definitiv andere! Wie kann ich einen Rat ueber Vorschriften oder Gesetze geben, wenn doch schon jede Provinz oder Staat, oder gar Land seine eigenen hat. Und dann die Frage, wie man Off-Grid eigentlich Geld verdient….nee, oder?!
Was mich dann auch noch immer verbluefft….aus irgendeinem Grund denken die meisten Leute das “Tiny Haus” gleich “billige, schnelle Hausalternative” ansehen. Aber, auch da kommt’s doch wieder ganz darauf an, was will ich eigentlich, welchen Lebensstandard habe ich?
Wir haben fast 12 Jahre in einer Art tiny Haus gelebt (nein, nicht in dem auf obigen Foto 😉 ) und als wir es ausgebaut haben, haben wir sehr schnell gelernt, dass das gar nicht so einfach ist und kostspielig werden kann, denn Schraenke, etc. mal eben aus’m Moebelmarkt kaufen ist nicht….da muss Vieles angefertigt werden und wenn man nicht handwerklich halbwegs begabt ist, dann muss man es machen lassen….und wir wissen ja, was gute Handwerker (so sie ueberhaupt zu bekommen sind) kosten!
Ausserdem, wenn man das “off-grid Ding” alleine durchziehen will, ist das hart! Bei uns hat’s nur funktioniert, weil wir es als Team angegangen sind und so funktioniert es auch nur bis heute …
Aber, um das jetzt mal zusammenfassend zum Ende zu bringen…Ich kapier natuerlich, dass Menschen ihr Leben aendern wollen, ihre Traeume ausleben moechten, mehr Zeit mit Familie und Freunden verbringen wollen und es ist voellig okay Fragen zu haben, oder um Hilfe zu bitten!
Aber, man muss sich wirklich erstmal selbst hinsetzen und ein paar Gedanken machen, Pro und Contra durchgehen und dann offene Fragen recherchieren, sich fragen, was man wirklich will, erwartet und ob man das leisten kann und will! Einfach die Arbeit im Vorfeld reinstecken die es erfordert!!
Denn, andere Menschen koennen Dir zwar helfen und das gilt fuer alles im Leben, aber, fuer das Ergebnis bist nur Du verantwortlich!! Wenn etwas schiefgeht, kannst Du nicht Andere beschuldigen, nur weil Du lieber den Weg des geringsten Widerstands gegangen bist…Du bist fuer Dein Leben verantwortlich, sonst niemand!!
Und hier ist noch etwas, was oft vergessen wird:
Und….”Bitte” und “Danke” sind kleine Worte, die jeder von uns gern hoert 😉
Was sonst noch hier so los war
Ich verstehe ja, dass sich nicht nur das Streifenhoernchen, das Ihr letzte Woche kennengelernt habt, sich hier wohlfuehlt, sondern auch sein Kollege das Eichhoernchen. Wobei der etwas frecher ist und auch “kopfstellt” um ins Vogelfutterhaus reinzukommen 😉
Aber, als ich heute morgen rauskam und er dabei war die Schafswolle, die wir als Isolierung um Tueren und Fenster haben und diese leider noch nicht verkleidet sind, am rausziehen war….nee, da war dann doch Ende mit lustig 😉
Wusstet Ihr eigentlich, dass man frueher, als Grundstuecke vermessen wurden und es noch keine Staebe oder Plastikmarker gab, fuer die Markierung der Grenzen seine ganz eigenen Mittel und Wege hatte?!
Auf den ersten Blick koennte man denken, dass dies hier an den Baeumen Kratzspuren von Baeren sind, aber, nein, die Vermesser der alten Tage, haben mit einer Axt oder Messer tiefe Kratzer in die Baeume von verschiedenen Seiten geritzt und somit die Grenzen markiert.
Wir hatten diese auf einem Gang ueber unser Grundstueck gefunden, als wir naemlich gerade dabei waren nach Grenzmarkern zu suchen!
Fall Ihr uns uebrigens nicht auf Instagram oder Facebook folgt….hier sind noch zwei neue Video’s. Eines davon mit ein paar Gedanken und das Andere…..sagen wir einfach mal, ich bin mir nicht sicher, wie viele unter Euch sowas schon einmal gesehen, oder gehoert haben 😉
