Hier geht’s zur Deutschen Version
This week was a mix of progress and frustration………..but that’s the way it is and the only thing that counts is how you deal with it…..am I right ?! And seeing a rainbow like that at the end of the day…………makes you realize again how beautiful nature can be !!
So let me just get over with the frustration part………bugs………not only in and on the logs but when it got warmer this week the black fly population just exploded and really gave us a hard time working outdoors all day.
Wasn’t quite as bad as on this photo I got from Wikipedia but we too could hardly see
Frank sometimes had to get rid of the net jacket as he just couldn’t see the scribe lines on the logs and where to cut then, same for me working with the crane……I just couldn’t see properly and it was too dangerous……….so the black flies got a great lunch time with us being uncovered ………….and the ton of itchy bits we have are proof they must have had a blast 😉
This was what it looks like after 20 min. when you find out you have a hole in your pants 😦
But worst thing was when we got into the camper at night and turned on the lights……..the ceiling and the windows where covered in black flies too…………as we had almost 30 degrees the windows where open but all the screens where shut properly………no clue how they get in………..but they do.
While I had a hissy fit and was rampaging through the camper trying to get rid of the infestation, Frank went out again to have a look at the two new logs we had set up for scribing………..only to find them covered in beetles!!
He started picking them at 10 pm and finally gave up at midnight…….

And here the one’s with the little trunk in front with which they lay their eggs into log cracks and that night there must have been hundreds on the logs
The logs are treated and would probably get no long term damage from them………but if there’s something that really gets to Frank at the moment……..it’s bugs in his logs 😉
Thankfully the hot stretch is over for the moment and there’s a lot of wind so we seem to get a “bug break”……always try to see the bright side 😉
But although things went a bit slower due to the bugs we managed to scribe….
pre-cut with our favorite tool the Lancelot
and after cutting out the big chunks with the chainsaw, then the fine line at the end with a chisel
and insulate the logs

Emmy dealt with the bugs and the heat her own way either sleeping in her own screen tent or standing in the frog pond which seems to be great for cooling down
It is actually one of the test holes the septic guys had dug and now serves as a pond for a couple of frogs …..speaking of which…….still no getting back to us from the septic people about our “septic water fall” 😦
One thing I wanted to share with you, as it really did occupy my mind for quite a while now is…….how different people seem to react to our blog !
We got an email from the 20ish year old friend of ours who said he wanted to just let us know how he and his friends like our blog and look forward to always hear about whats going on here……….and we where really blown away as we hadn’t thought that this generation would have any kind of interest in what stuff we “old people” were doing here…….and are still really grateful he took his time to let us know ….
on the other hand…..
an old friend of mine sent me a mail the other day to let us know that she’d didn’t actually read blogs and she “had a life to live” and she found them impersonal and appreciates more when I contact her personally….
I find her opinion very interesting and hadn’t seen it from her point of view as I really do invest a lot of time writing these blogs and although never being a “lazy” email writer before never having put so much effort in writing and editing with videos and pictures as I do now………….the only thing I admit is really missing is that I don’t address everyone personally………….but we really hope you know that we really appreciate everybody who takes there time and is interested in reading about our little “adventure” !
And please………if you ever have questions or anything you’d like us to get back to you on personally…………just let us know and we will do so, as that is important to us too !!!
So from us to you……..Thanks for taking your time and joining us on this journey 🙂

Deutsche Version
20. Mai 2017 – Anzeichnen, schneiden & Insekten !
Diese Woche war wirklich eine Mischung aus Frust und Fortschritt………aber, wenn man dann so einen Regenbogen sieht, dann vergisst man doch alles andere 🙂
Bei dem Anblick will man doch gar nicht weiterarbeiten, oder ?!
Aber, ich werd mal als Erstes den “Frustteil” los werden……….Insekten………nicht nur auf und im Holz, sondern, nachdem es diese Woche richtig warm wurde, explodierte die “Black Fly” Population (hier mal ein Link auf Wikipedia, weil es die Tierchen so in Europa scheinbar nicht gibt) und das Foto ist auch von dort………..
………..ganz so schlimm haben wir es nicht, aber konnten durch unsere Schutznetzhemden kaum noch sehen und mussten teilweise ohne weiterarbeiten, was die kleinen Monster dann gern als Zwischenmalzeit angenommen haben.
Ich hatte ein Loch im Hosenbein……..das sieht dann nach 20 min. so aus 😦
Am Schlimmsten war aber dann, als wir abends in den Camper gekommen sind und das Licht angemacht haben…….Decke und Fenster waren uebersaeht mit den Viechern……wir hatten den Tag 30 Grad und die Fenster waren alle offen, aber alle Fliegengitter sind intakt………..keine Ahnung, wie die reingekommen sind, aber sie haben einen Weg gefunden.
Waehrend ich wutentbrannt durch den Camper getobt bin und versucht hab die Blutsauger zu “entsorgen”, ist Frank nochmal runter zu seinen Baumstaemmen, um zu sehen, was evt. an den zwei neuen “los ist”, die wir gerade raufgesetzt hatten, damit sie am naechsten Tag angezeichnet werden konnten…………..nur um dort kurz vorm Ohnmachtsanfall zu stehen, als diese Schwarz uebersaet waeren von Holzboecken !!
Um 22 Uhr fing er an immer im Kreis rumzugehen und sie “abzupfluecken”……und um Mitternacht hat er endlich aufgegeben, nachdem er Hunderte eingesammelt hatte.
Wie die aussehen ?!………….Hier Foto’s von den “gemeinen Nagekaefer”, der tagsueber die frisch geschliffenen Staemme “in Beschlag” nimmt
und hier eine kleine gesammelte Auswahl von Holzboecken, die mit ihrem Ruessel die Eier in die Risse im Holz ablegt……

Die Staemme sind ja behandelt und hoffentlich wirkt das Zeug wirklichSchaeden abzuhalten……aber, wenn es etwas gibt, was Frank im Augenblick zur Weissglut treiben kann……….dann sind des Insekten auf seinem Holz !
Zum Glueck ist die Hitzewelle fuer den Moment vorbei und wir haben viel Wind, was uns eine kleine Erholungspause verschafft………immer das Positive sehen 😉
Obwohl wegen der Insekten alles etwas langsamer als gewuenscht vonstatten ging, haben wir es geschafft weitere logs anzuzeichnen
vorzuschneiden mit unserem Lieblingswerkzeut der “Lancelot”
wenn dann das Grobe mit der Kettensaege ausgeschnitten wurde, kommt noch der “Feinschliff” mit dem Stechbeitel
und dann noch die Isolierung in die ausgeschnitten Stellen:

der zweite Stamm der zweiten Reihe wird zum Anzeichnen auch noch aufgelegt
Emmy hat in der Zwischenzeit die Insekten im eigenen Fliegenschutzzelt verbracht und sich zum Abkuehlen in den “Froschteich” gestellt……..der Teich ist entstanden, als die Abwsserleute ein paar Testloecher gebuddelt hatten und nun haben sich dort ein paar Froesche angesiedelt…………Apropos Abwasserleute…………..haben natuerlich bis zum heutigen Tag nichts mehr von denen gehoert 😦
Da ist noch eine Sache, die ich gerne mit Euch teilen wollte, da es mich doch beschaeftigt, wie manche Leute auf unseren Blog reagieren !
Auf der einen Seite haben wir eine Email von einem Freund bekommen, der in seinen 20igern ist und uns wissen lassen wollte, wie er und seine Freunde unseren Blog moegen und es total interessant finden, was wir Alten (meine Worte, nicht seine !) hier so treiben!
Das hat uns echt beruehrt, denn mit sowas hatten wir von “Jungs” in dem Alter nie gerechnet und auch, dass er sich die Zeit genommen hat, uns das zu sagen…….Danke Tilman 🙂
und dann gibt es auch die andere Seite….
eine Freundin von mir hat mir vor ein paar Tagen eine Mail geschickt und meinte, dass sie eigentlich keine Blogs lesen wuerde, denn sie “haette ein Leben zu leben “ und faende Blogs auch unpersoenlich und wuerde den persoenlichen Email Kontakt bevorzugen.
Ich war da erstmal etwas baff und finde ihre Meinung aber auch sehr interessant, da ich es von dem Standpunkt noch nie betrachtet habe.
Ich selbst finde, dass wir eine Menge Zeit darin investieren, so einen Blog zu schreiben und mit Videos und Bildern zu versehen, was ich, obwohl sowieso nie jemand, der kurze Mails schreibt, so sonst nicht alles in eine Mail an eine einzelne Person tun wuerde.
Daher denke ich, dass alle auf diese Art und Weise eigentlich noch mehr von uns erfahren……wobei zugegebenermassen die persoenliche Ansprache an jeden Einzelnen fehlt………wir hoffen aber, dass Ihr wisst, dass wir wirklich zu schaetzen wissen, dass Euch interessiert, was wir hier so treiben und gern und so schnell wie moeglich, auf Anfragen, Ideen oder Vorschlaege persoenlich auf jeden dann zurueckkommen !
Auf diesem Wege also von uns auch mal an Euch………

Zum Abschluss hier noch ein neuer “Nachbar”, der sich letzte Woche haeuslich hier am See niedergelassen hat……ein “Loon“…..ist eines der canadische “Wappentiere” und die ein Dollar Muenze, wo er auf der Rueckseite verewigt ist, heisst umgangssprachlich auch “loonie” (gesprochen: : lunie} , so wie die zwei Dollar Muenze “twoonie” genannt wird
In diesem Sinne……..Euch allen ein tolles Wochenende und allen Canadiern…….
