Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version

A while ago a we where contacted on our facebook page by David CEO of

“Living Off the Grid” and “Off Grid Quest“

He had seen our fb page and then checked out our website/blog and asked if he could re-post our blogs on his website, which presents an awesome collection of all kinds of things related to off-grid living, travel, nature, technical things…..and you name it !

We couldn’t believe that somebody who’s surrounded by the most interesting people and things they do, would consider us and our little adventure worthy of being named  there….and we still can’t !

We honestly just see ourselves as two people who want to build a home for themselves…..just like others too……..that it happens to be in the middle of nowhere and therefore to expensive to put in power, so now we have to deal with solar and all kinds of other things………..that was just a side effect 😉 

The only thing left to say for us is:  

thank you so much for that great honor  !

While scrolling through the Off Grid Quest pages I actually found an article about a tree we had seen on our cross country tour in 2011 through the US and which we think of as the “mother of all trees” ……..of course not only this one specifically but the species themselves …..Sequoias and Redwoods………OMG are those AMAZING !!

Walking through those woods we felt like two of Snow White’s dwarfs !!

The experience just makes one speechless and humble !!

Anyhow………we didn’t have TV by last year so we didn’t have a clue that this tourist attraction we had seen had come down in a storm the end of December…….and wouldn’t know about it, if it wasn’t for this really informative website ………… just scroll through the categories…….I’m sure there’s something for everyone !

I’ll leave at this for now……….but here some impressions of that wonderful tree…..which I’m sure would have had some stories to tell !! Maybe some of you have been there too ?!

The funniest thing happened when we drove up to the tree with our truck and the pop up camper on top, actually only to take some photos……….but all the other tourists there thought we’d try to drive through and yanked up their camera to catch the two dumb redneck Nova Scotian’s wrecking their camper……..of course nobody consider to warn us to the joke was on them when Frank just stopped inches in front of the tree 🙂

3. Mai 2017 – “Off Grid Quest” posted unsere Blogs !

Wie cool ist das !!

Vor einer Weile wurden wir auf unserer facebook Seite von David dem CEO von

“Living Off the Grid” und “Off Grid Quest” kontaktiert.

Er hatte unsere Seite dort entdeckt und sich dann auf unserer Webseite/Blog umgesehen und gefragt, ob er auf seiner Webseite unsere Blogs nochmals posten duerfte. Diese stellt eine umfangreiche Sammlung von allen moeglichen Themen um Off Grid Leben, Technik, Natur, Reise und was nicht sonst noch alles, dar.

Wir konnten nicht glauben, dass jemand, der sich mit den interessantesten Leuten, die es in diesen Bereichen so gibt, befasst, uns und unser kleines Abenteuer fuer erwaehneswert haelt…..und wir koennen es noch immer nicht !

Auch wenn es seltsam klingen mag, wir finden das, was wir tun nicht wirklich “Besonders”, wir sind auch nur zwei Leute, die sich, wie viele andere auch, ihren Traum vom eigenen Haus erfuellen wollen……dass das nun mitten im Nirgendwo stattfindet und wir aus Kostengruenden auf Solarenergie umsteigen muessen und auch noch ein paar andere Dinge nicht so ganz ins uebliche Schema passen……das ist nur ein Seiteneffekt 🙂

Wir moechten uns also in diesem Sinne ganz herzlich bedanken, dass uns diese Ehre zuteil wird !!

Waehrend wir uebrigens durch die Seiten von Off Grid Quest gescrollt sind, sind wir auf einen Artikel ueber einen Baum gestossen, den wir auf unserer US Rundreise 2011 gesehen hatten und diese Spezies von Baeumen ist fuer uns die “Mutter aller Baeume” und hat einen unglaublichen Eindruck bei uns hinterlassen.

Ich rede von Redwood’s und Sequoia’s !

Als wir durch die Waelder gelaufen sind, kamen wir uns vor wie zwei von Schneewittchens Zwergen !

Man fuehlt sich einfach nur so klein und ….mir faellt kein anderes Wort ein…..demuetig !

Wir hatten ja letztes Jahr immer noch kein Fernsehen und haben gar nicht mitbekommen, das waehrend eines Sturms im Dezember diese Touristenattraktion, umgestuerzt ist !

Man schaetzt diese Baeume um die 1000 Jahre alt !!! Man, was koennten die fuer Geschichten erzaehlen !!

Naja, ohne die Webseite, waeren wir jedenfalls da nicht drauf gestossen und ich kann sie Euch nur empfehlen (ist allerdings alles in Englisch) und wenn Ihr durch die Kategorien geht, werdet Ihr bestimmt etwas finden, was Euch interessiert !

Zu dem Baum der umgestuerzt ist, haben wir aber noch eine witzige Geschichte….als wir da waren, wollten wir ein Foto machen, wo unser truck mit dem popup camper drauf davor steht.

Frank ist also direkt auf die Durchfahrt in dem Baum gefahren und die Touristen drum herum dachten alle, dass die doofen Hinterwaelder aus Nova Scotia durchfahren wollten und rissen alle die Kamera’s hoch um die Katastrophe im Bild festzuhalten……. natuerlich hatte niemand versucht uns zu warnen……..naja, wer zuletzt lacht…..nicht wahr……..hab selten so viele  enttaeuschte Gesichter gesehen ……

So, dass soll’s aber fuer jetzt wesen sein und ich habe mal ein paar Bilder angehangen, von diesem Baum und noch ein paar von denen, die wir gesehen hatten.
