hier geht’s zur deutschen Version
This was a rather slow week for us…..two days of ice rain where Frank actually stayed home and finally got the first “weekend” in weeks. Although it’s been almost three month now his ribs are still hurting from the “roof slide” and so he did enjoy the time off.
The “aftermath” of such a weather though are really nice pieces of art Mother Nature leaves behind
Following that ice rain was another two day wind event and because of the sun we had, there was some melting involved which then leaves behind tilted icicles
During this time I got some frustration news……Emmy will not be reinstated to the Therapy Dog Program!
It’s mandatory for the dogs to be vaccinated against 4 deseases so we got a titre test done and Emmy shows full immunity.
Unfortunately the program we work for does not accept titre test although they actually show that a dog is immune compared to a vaccination which in some cases can fail depending on different circumstances and leave the dog not safe.
In some countries it’s mandatory to have titre test as the don’t just want to rely on the vaccination.
Due to Emmy’s recent recovery from the Lyme desease the vets don’t recommend to stress her system with vaccinations she doesn’t need and although explaining this case to the officials these referred to their policies and said that last year they had decided not to accept titre test’s as they see them not as proof of a secure vaccination.
So although she is immune she’s not allowed back.
This is really unfortunate and I’m really sad especially for the people in the nursing home where she had served before for almost 5 years and for the local library which wanted to have her as a reading dog for children with reading disabilities and which I wanted her to get evaluated for this year.
Of course I could get her vaccinated against everything again but I will not endanger her health by doing that when it is not even necessary …….not talking about additional costs for all the vaccinations.
I respect that there are rules to be followed for everybody’s safety but in this case don’t understand the reason and I think sometimes people tend to forget that this is all voluntary work and all we want to do is serve the community and Emmy is great at what she does and this is everybody’s loss.
Here a little review of her work…..for privacy reasons I had to cut out most faces…..which is unfortunate as they show most how much these dogs mean to the people
But nothing we can do about it and we’ll see if she can keep on visiting single residents and of course she’s always welcome in the building center’s to cheer up the employees 🙂
And otherwise…………today’s the day Frank’s debarking the last tree !!!
Next on the list…….slowly but surely starting to prepare to move back into the camper now that the temperatures are rising.
Therefore he’ll have to do a check on the water tanks and all the pipes as we still don’t know if or what kind of damage occurred when they froze up in December.

Die letzten Tage waren ziemlich ruhig……jedenfalls was die Arbeit angeht, denn wir hatten zwei Tage Eisregen und Frank ist tatsaechlich mal zuhause geblieben und hat sich ein wenig “Urlaub” gegoennt, nachdem er nun die letzten Wochen nonstop durchgearbeitet hat……und da er noch immer nach seinem Sturz von der Leiter (ach nein Entschuldigung…..die Leiter rutschte ja weg, waehrend er draufstand 😉 Probleme mit den Rippen hat, war die Zwangspause sehr willkommen.
Allerdings hinterlaesst Mutter Natur dann immer ein paar sehr schoene Erinnerungen an solche Tage
Nachdem dann der Eisregen aufgehoert hatte, fing der starke Nordostwind wieder an, aber weil es auch ein wenig sonnig war und taute, konnte man dann aus den Regenrinnen schraegstehende Eiszapfen kommen sehen
Ich habe allerdings auch etwas “Frustnachricht” bekommen……denn Emmy wird nicht mehr im Hundetherapieprogamm aufgenommen !
Es ist Pflicht, dass die Hunde gegen vier Krankheiten geimpft sind und so haben wir fuer sie einen Titertest durchfuehren lassen, der zeigt, dass sie volle Immunitaet hat.
Ungluecklicherweise akzeptiert der Verein fuer den wir gearbeitet hatten diese nicht, obwohl es ein definitiver Beweis ist, dass der Hund geschuetzt ist, im Gegensatz zur Impfung, die, wie beim Menschen, auch aus verschiedenen Gruenden mal nicht volle Immunitaet garantiert.
In manchen Laendern ist der Titertest ja sogar Pflicht, weil die Impfungen als nicht 100%ig gelten.
Da Emmy im Dezember wegen der Lyme Erkrankung behandelt wurde, empfehlen die Tieraerzte ihr Immunsystem mit zusaetzlichen und in ihrem Fall unnoetigen Impfungen, nicht zu belasten.
Die habe ich auch den Offiziellen des Vereins uebermittelt, aber die berufen sich auf ihre Statuten, in denen gerade letztes Jahr erneut aufgenommen wurde, dass Titertest nicht anerkannt werden, da sie sie nicht als sicher akzeptieren.
So wird sie nicht mehr aufgenommen……….obwohl immun.
Die Leidtragenden sind die Menschen in der Seniorenresidenz und auch der oertliche Buecherei, wo Emmy in diesem Jahr als “Lesehund” fuer Kinder mit Leseschwaeche zugelassen werden sollte.
Natuerlich koennte ich sie nochmals gegen alles impfen lassen…….aber die Gesundheit unseres Hundes geht in diesem Fall vor………zumal es voellig ueberfluessig waere……..von den Kosten dafuer mal ganz abgesehen, die ebenfalls voellig ueberfluessig waeren…….denn man darf nicht vergessen, das ist alles Volontaerarbeit.
Ich verstehe, dass Vorschriften zum Schutz aller eingehalten werden muessen, aber in diesem Fall faellt es mir schwer dies nachzuvollziehen.
Aber…..man kann dagegen nichts machen und so bleiben uns nun nur noch die Besuche in den Bauhaeusern hier, wo die Angestellten und Kunden mehr als froh sind, wenn wir sie immer besuchen kommen 🙂
Und sonst………heute hat Frank die letzten Baeume geschaelt und nun fangen wir langsam aber sicher an, uns auf den Rueckumzug in den Camper vorzubereiten.
Allerdings muss dafuer als Erstes gecheckt werden, ob nun die Wassertanks und –leitungen noch alle heil sind, oder ob der Sturm im Dezember, nach dem ja alles eingefroren war, doch Schaeden verursacht hat, die erstmal beseitigt werden muessen.
Wir freuen uns jedenfalls schon sehr, wenn wir wieder in unsere Einsamkeit ziehen koennen und dazu hier noch von mir einen Link auf ein Musikvideo, das uns ein Bekannter zugeschickt hat und das wir wirklich schoen und auf die heutige Zeit sehr passend finden.
