Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version
Hello Together !
I know it’s been a while since our last post but I wanted to cool down a bit first and get into a better mood before writing again……but I’m gonna get back to that a little later.

Weather here has been absolutely gorgeous , besides today…..we’re having some severe rain and wind due to a system rolling up the coast from Florida and Bahamas where they suffered a hurricane ….thank god we’re just getting the “leftovers” and we do need the rain after weeks of draught here.
The camper is surviving these conditions quite well and we’ve got ourselves a woodstove in the meantime……actually it’s the second one.
The first one was a small one…….which did work okay…..but having had temperatures down to -7 degrees I had to get up every 2 hours to fill up the small wood box as temps would fall down to 12 degrees in the camper within that time………well and anybody who knows Frank …….he wouldn’t wake if a storm would rip off the roof………..so as I’m the “picky sleeper”……..it was up to me to get up every couple of hours to reheat………and not being able to fall asleep quickly after that each time……my “beauty sleep” really lacked and after a couple of weeks I was feeling like a zombie.
So we got ourselves a nice new big one that’s going to be big enough to heat the house later on…..but on the other hand is so big that once filled up and burning for the night…………it get’s so hot inside that even in front where we sleep we still have + 40 degrees there !!!! So way too hot for sleeping !
So I decided to compromise and fill it up half and get up once a night to refill…………..thankfully it works that way and we’re not prone to die of a heat stroke in the winter 🙂
Well…….and now the “fun” part about our container….
We were notified that it arrived on Sep. 22nd in Halifax and we drove up to the customs office, and got all our “goods to follow” lists checked and stamped and the shipping company promised delivery for the next day…..saying they’d call about the approximate time.
Well as nobody got back to us until the evening we thought we’d call again and were informed that Customs had “flagged” our container on Sep. 20th (so even before arrival ) which means they keep the container and ship it to a different location for complete review…….so the office in Halifax had made a really big “bobo” as they hadn’t checked their computers and simply signed the release form ….which never should have happened.
So there we stood with an official release form that everything was okay and we could get our container and the harbor officials with an official hold form for a total checkup………….great that’s exactly what you want when you sit there and desperately wait for your personal belongings to arrive……especially all of our tools………which we really needed to go on at the building site!
They never tell you why you’re flagged, or what they’re looking for………it’s just “shut up and wait”
But………..you do NOT discuss with the Government ………because then you’re in for a lot of trouble 😉
Our shipping company was baffled too but said something like that would usually only take 2-3 days ….unfortunately the weekend was in between but after 5 days having passed without any information what was going on we decided to try to find out what the situation was.
Always of course having in mind that you only get 5 days free after the container arrives……after that you have to pay fees to the shipping company and the government…….as you have your container on their property…..and therefore they charge a “parking” fee !
Of course you have to pay for them checking your container too………….it’s the transport to a “secret” location and the unloading and reloading of your personal items they charge you for.
Well……..long story short……….due to a back up as so many containers had to be controlled……..we waited two long weeks ……….and it cost is almost 3000 $ additional to the shipping fees !!!!
So…..in case you plan to move overseas and take your personal items in a container………plan on at least 3000 $ extra for your shipping budget !!!!
Oh, and the fun part was also, that you get informed that any damage on the goods during un- and reloading of the container is on you !!!! Unbelievable !!!
It’s our third move with a container but that’s a first for us too !!!!!!!!
Oh, and of course needless to say……….they found nothing to complain about !!!
But we were so happy to finally get our belongings that we just set a check mark behind that experience……nothing we could have done about it anyhow !
Although we didn’t have any tools during that time ………we haven’t been lazy…..
The building site got excavated and Frank was allowed to used one of the two excavators too to help (and of course that saves us a lot of money!) and with a lot of using the hammer on the excavator we managed to get some rock moved without having to blast and now have created three levels for structures.
Down at the lake we’ll have the house.
On the next one we set up the camper …..after finishing the house we’ll sell the camper and set up a green house there…….we love to grow our own vegetables and hopefully some fruit too !
And the top level will be for the ground mount solar system structure and behind that we’ll build a 50ft. “shed”……..that’s for storage of all of our things with are now in the storage container that Franks former boss from Shore Cycle let’s us use right now but we really like to have close to finally be able to get to our things properly.
Then we got our well drilled……….althoughg it’s only about 80 ft from the lakefront ………they had to go down 350 ft ! It was all just granite and no water before.
As it’s down by the house Frank had already put in pipes while excavation so the water right now goes up to the camper ….. how cool is that !!!! We can now take a nice hot shower (as days are getting colder it wasn’t so much fun going in the lake for a dip anymore 😉 )
Of course that’s a luxury …….as we don’t want to have the generator running all the time as that would be a lot of fuel or heating up with propane………a lot of propane!
We also dug up the ground for the poles where the solar ground mount will be placed and mixed and poured all the concrete by hand………would have been too expensive to get a concrete truck in for the amount we needed.
The solar system itself has also arrived and after comparing we decided to go with PSES who are located in Cape Breton.
For starters we’ll have 30 panels with 260 W and 12 battieres………..each weighs 70 kg …..oh my that’s fun to drag them around 😦
But until we’ll be able to create power from the sun……….will take a while as we still not really sure how to do the ground mount construction.
We did do a lot of camping before but now living without power for month………it’s unbelievable how much we’ve taken “having power” at any time, at any amount, for granted………and how much we rely on it in daily terms !
A lot is going to be easier as soon as the solar systems going to work………and so much more calm…..because having the generator sometimes running for an hour and more if you want to do laundry or in the evening have the luxury of watching a DVD on TV……it’s just nerve wreaking !
All our life on the race tracks we’ve been surrounded by noise (well roaring engines still sound more like music 😉 ) 24/7 ………so now we thoroughly enjoy total quietness around us.
Hopefully we’ll then be able to attach an antenna or whatever so that we can have some phone service up here……….because right now it’s always a walk up the hill hoping that that day there will be at least one bar……otherwise you have to get on the ATV and drive down to the road.
And………last but not least …….and really something we’re looking forward to……….last week we had an engineer here who looked around and made the drawings for our septic system …..yeah !!!!
The building inspectors office approved it and we have a septic permit !!!!! How cool is that !!!
Before the contractor took his beautiful excavators with him we hammered and dug in the holes for the tanks and we could already put them in.
As for all the granite rocks……..we couldn’t find a place for the septic field by the house so it will have to be pumped up from the tanks to the field as that a little bit higher on a slope…………additional power usage we wanted to avoid but it is what it is.
So from next week on our garden shovel will only be taken for it’s designated purpose and we’ll not have to go out there in all kinds of weather to follow natures call……….although in a rainstorm like today you can used the bathroom and take a shower at the same time..haha……….sorry I know…..gross !!!!
Somehow you seem to turn into a kind of a “caveman” after living in the woods for a while 😉
But……..and that’s no joke now…..it’ll also be safer ….
Frank was cutting brush around his “bathroom” ……yes we do allow us the luxury of separate “bathrooms” 😉 and it was quite windy that day and he had just stopped when the thought he’d heard something…..so he turns around and……stands eye to eye with a nice big black bear !
They starred at each other and obviously Frank must really have kind of a ‘caveman look’ in the meantime as the bear just turned around and ran away !
As I had to go to town that day anyhow …..I stopped by the next Canadian Tire and bought some bear spray……only in case ……. 😉
Otherwise things are fine………..
After getting the septic permit we also got a drawing for our house done and as the shed and even the shelter we want to build for the camper are too big…….we need building permits for every single structure 😦
But I must say…………..the building inspectors in Bridgewater are really kind and helpful ……let’s see if they’ll still be when they see what we’re doing 😉
Getting the building permit for the house would be awesome as we could then push hard and hope that we’re able to get in the foundation strips for the house………..but it’s getting later in the year then and we hope it’s not going to be too cold by then.
Frank also finally found a place where we can get the trees we want in the size we need ……….not so easy and not exactly around the corner but some good friends of ours have logging trucks and equipment and offered to help out.
We also started the structure for the camper “car port”…………hope we don’t have to make any changes as we didn’t get the permit yet .
Before we left for Sweden we had some customers we did snow removal for and after word had spread that we’re back…………..they all called and asked if we’d do plowing again and we even got recommended and now have the rural gas station, community hall and fire department as new customers…………how cool is that !!
We’re really grateful that the people here have taken us back with open arms and it’s awesome to live in a community like this !
We know lots of other immigrants who complain that they’re not accepted and locals give them a hard time……….in some cases that might be……….but we’ve been around and moved a lot and have never really encountered that problem………you just have to be willing to adapt and fit in………of course we stay who we are…………but if you show people you want to be there, offer to help where it’s needed and accept help and advice too and not appear as a “know it all”……..no matter which country !
Sure you’ll always have somebody who doesn’t like you and vice versa………but that’s okay………but the majority of people……..especially in the rural areas…..will give you a change…..the rest is up to you !
And for us……….we’ll still have to climb a lot of mountains until we’ll be able to sit in our lazy boys by the fire ……….. but that doesn’t matter…………..that’s what we chose and what we need and I found a t-shirt on which it says:
“ Adventure hurts…….but monotony will only bore you”
and that’s soooo right for us 🙂 Take care !!!!

Hallo Zusammen !!!
Es ist nun schon wieder eine ganze Weile her, dass wir uns gemeldet haben…….aber es ist auch einiges passiert und ich wollte erstmal abwarten und wieder gute Laune bekommen, ehe ich mich melde……mehr dazu aber gleich.
Wir hoffen, dass es Euch allen gut geht, Ihr gesund und munter seid und einen schoenen Herbst geniessen koennt ?!?!?!
Ein paar von Euch waren so lieb und haben sich auch auf unsere Update Mails zurueckgemeldet, worueber wir uns sehr gefreut haben………ich wuerde mich auch gern direkt auf die Mails zurueckmelden und jedem persoenlich schreiben, aber da wir noch immer kein Internet bei uns am Camper haben (nur mal hin und wieder kurz Empfang auf dem Telefon……aber das auch nur, wenn der Wettergott zustimmt), sitze ich dann 30 min von uns hier entfernt auf dem Parkplatz von Tim Hortens oder McDonalds im Auto und versuche meinen Schriftverkehr zu erledigen…………ist auf Dauer nicht besonders bequem und da wir auch noch viele Recherchen zu Baumaschinen, Geothermie, Bodenbeschaffungen, Solarausrichtungen, etc, etc, etc, vorzunehmen haben……sitze ich manchmal 2-3 Std. im Auto und dann noch jedem einzeln schreiben……….nee, das muss warten, bis wir mal Internet im Camper haben.
Ja…..ich weiss….ich koennte, wie ja jetzt auch, im Camper schoen warm und bequem sitzen und vorschreiben……aber das dauert ja auch immer etwas und das Akku vom Rechner haelt hoechstens 2 Std…….danach heisst es dann wieder den Generator anschmeissen und laden…………aber bei dem Laerm ist es auch nicht so richtig entspannend zu sitzen und ein paar persoenliche Worte zu verfassen……..also muesst Ihr noch etwas Geduld mit uns haben, bis es wieder so richtig persoenlich wird 🙂
Nun aber von Anfang an………wobei ich keine Ahnung mehr habe, womit ich beim letzten Mal aufgehoert hatte……jaja……die “Waldalzheimer” 😉
Also fangen wir ganz gewoehnlich mal mit dem Wetter an…….welches bisher wirklich super war und wir erst heute mal so richtig schlechtes Wetter haben (wobei, wenn das nicht waere, haette ich keine Zeit zu schreiben…..also ist’s eigentlich nicht soooo schlimm J ) ……..Auslaeufer eines Hurrikans, der vor einer Woche irgendwo auf den Bahamas und Florida seinen “Spass” hatte…….zum Glueck liegt er ueber dem Atlantik und hat sich nicht , wie erst vorhergesagt, ueber Nova Scotia nochmal ausgelebt……….wir haben nur Starkregen und ziemlichen Wind………Regen brauchen wir dringend, denn es ist immer noch viel zu trocken gewesen und die Wasserstaende bedenklich niedrig sind.
Der “Pappcamper” haelt noch ganz gut durch und nun, wo wir uns einen anderen Holzofen besorgt haben……..beim Kleinen vorher war das Problem, dass er Waerme nur ca 2 Std. gehalten hat und dann abgekuehlt ist…………..da wir hier Nachts auch schon -7 Grad hatten, war das dann nicht so doll, alle 1-2 Std aufzuwachen und dann nachheizen zu muessen, weil nur noch 12 Grad im Camper waren……und ganz klar…….Frank schlaeft trotzdem, wer unseren Hund kennt, weiss, dass die ein “Prinzessinnenbett” hat und bis zur Nasenspitze zugedeckt ist (alles fuer den Dackel J ) und da Ela ja eh nie richtig schlafen, dann die Arschkarte hat und staendig aufsteht und Holz nachschiebt……….aber selbst fuer mich sind Schlafzeiten von 1-2 Std auf Dauer nicht der Hammer und meist hab ich dann um 4 Uhr aufgegeben und bin gleich aufgeblieben…………aber fragt nicht nach Sonnenschein…….man bin ich morgens immer platt 😦
Egal, neuer Ofen, neues Glueck…….was das Heizen angeht auf jedenfall…….Hund haelt mich trotzdem noch auf Trab, den sie hat noch immer Probleme mit den Pfoten und leckt nachts viel, aber da muessen wir (naja, also ich, da sonst “keiner” wach wird) durch und sie fangen an, langsam aber sicher besser auszusehen……………wird auch Zeit , nach nun ueber einem Jahr !!!
Zum Glueck gehts uns sonst gesundheitlich gut und alles geht seinen Gang………..langsam zwar…..fuer mich natuerlich immer viel zu langsam, aber manches laesst sich nicht erzwingen……..kostet aber trotzdem Nerven…..
Zuletzt z B die Geschichte mit unserem Container……
Dieser ist hier am 22.09. im Hafen von Halifax angekommen…….wir sind den Tag gleich zum Zoll, haben die Bestandslisten abgestempelt bekommen und die Spedition sagt, dass dieser dann am naechsten Tag angeliefert werden wuerde und sie sich melden wuerden wann…..
Naja, als Abends noch immer niemand angerufen hatte, haben wir uns nochmal gemeldet und erfahren, dass der Container bereits am 20.09. “geflaggt” wurde…………….heisst der Zoll behaelt den Container zu einer vollstaendigen Untersuchung ein !! Der Container haette also gar nicht freigegeben werden duerfen……..der Angestellte hat ziemlichen Aerger bekommen, aber fuer uns gings damit erstmal so richtig los!!
Unsere Spedition meinte ca 2-3 Tage wuerde sowas dauern, aber das Wochenende lag dazwischen, niemand sagte uns, wonach eigentlich gesucht wurde und warum……….und als es dann Dienstag wurde, fragten wir nochmal nach……….als Kunde bekommt man sowieso keine Auskunft und der Spedition wurde gesagt, dass es viel zu tun gaebe und keiner sagen koennte wie lange es dauern wuerde…….ganz klar, sind Standzeiten vom Kunden zu tragen (diese werden taeglich berechnet und sind happig !!!) und natuerlich muss die Kontrolle auch nochmal vom Kunden bezahlt werden……………nach staendigen Rueckfragen und Beteurerungen, dass der Container bestimmt bald kontrolliert werden wuerde (diese Art der Kontrolle heisst, dass der komplette Container von Zollbeamten entladen und geprueft wird und dann auch wieder von denen eingeladen werden muss……….natuerlich alles auf unsere Kosten !!) sind dann zwei Wochen vergangen und am Freitag haben wir dann endlich unseren Container zugestellt bekommen………………naja………muss ja nicht extra erwaehnen, dass von Ordnung keine Rede war und Kisten und alles was sonst noch drin war einfach reingestopft worden war, ohne Ruecksicht auf Verluste……….ach ja…….man bekommt vorher noch mitgeteilt, dass man ja nicht nur fuer die Kontrolle und die Standzeit zahlen muss, sondern dass Schaeden, die von den Zoellnern verursacht werden, nicht erstattbar sind und ebenfalls vom Kunden getragen werden muessen………….ist eine weltweite Uebereinkunft, wo sind saemtliche Laender scheinbar endlich mal einig sind 😉 !!
Egal, nachdem wir so lange auf unser Zeug gewartet hatten, waren wir froh, dass wir es endlich in Empfang nehmen konnten, egal wie, denn wir haben hier die ganze Zeit ohne Werkzeug oder andere Klamotten gesessen, immer nur noch mit dem, womit wir vor 7 Wochen hier angekommen waren.
Rumgesessen haben wir trotzdem nicht………..in der Zwischenzeit haben wir einen Brunnen fuer Wasser bohren lassen………..dieser ist keine 25 m vom Ufer entfernt, aber es mussten ueber 120 m tief gebohrt werden, ehe man auf Wasser gestossen ist……………wir sitzen hier auf Felsen und da koennen wir froh sein, dass ueberhaupt was gefunden wurde.
Oh, welch ein Luxus nun Wasser zu haben, ohne es staendig eimerweise aus dem See holen zu muessen !!! Ihr koennt Euch nicht vorstellen, welch ein Genuss es ist nun hin und wieder mal eine warme Dusche zu nehmen………….hin und wieder, denn wir muessen das Wasser ja trotzdem mit dem Generator oder Propan aufheizen……….naja, und wenn man das staendig machen wuerde, geht das ganz schoen ins Geld.
Die Pfosten fuer die Solaranlagenhalterung sind auch gegraben und gegossen und nun muessen die Loecher nur noch zugeschuettet und die Halterungsanlage (wir werden eine Anlage haben, die auf dem Boden montiert ist) gebaut werden………….Die Panele und die Batterien (12 Stueck mit jeweils 70 kg……das Gebuckel wird nie ein Ende haben 😉 ) hatten wir bereits bestellt und diese sind vor ein paar Tagen angekommen…………..bis wir aber dann mal Strom von der Sonne haben werden, wird’s wohl noch etwas dauern, denn erst muss noch das Staenderwerk gebaut werden.
Unglaublich, wie selbstverstaendlich wir bisher immer mit Strom umgegangen sind und wie abhaengig man in seinem Alltag inzwischen eigentlich davon ist !!
Naja, wenn die Anlage erstmal steht, wird jedenfalls Vieles einfacher, denn staendig den laermenden Generator laufen zu lassen ist wirklich nervig, vorallem, wenn man mal Waesche waschen will, oder wir uns doch mal den Genuss antun und mal eine DVD ansehen, oder, wie jetzt, wo mein Akku leer ist und er dann teilweise stundenlang laufen muss.
Aber……….es ist ja absehbar, dass wir irgendwann Strom haben werden und wir dann auch endlich einen Verstaerker besorgen koennen, wo wir dann hoffenlich ein funktionierendes Handy im Camper haben ohne immer bis auf den naechsten Berg zu krabbeln, oder noch besser evt. Internet im “Haus” zu haben!!! Oh man, ich bin ja schon soooo aufgeregt 😉
Aber………erstmal kommt der wohl groesste “Genuss” in ca zwei Wochen auf uns zu……..nachdem ein Ingenieur alles hier untersucht und gezeichnet hat und es dann auch genehmigt wurde…….tatarata!!!!! Wird am Mittwoch jemand kommen und Abwassertanks in die Loecher setzen, die wir aus dem Fels gehaemmert hatten und dann noch ein Abwasserfeld setzen (8 m breit und 25 m lang) und dann koennen wir endlich unser Klo im Camper nutzen !!!! Ich bin ja schon soooo aufgeregt !!!
Nicht mehr bei jedem Wind und Wetter (und nun teilweise ja auch Minusgraden) raus in den Wald und Loecher graben………wobei man bei einem Regensturm wie heute gleichzeitig auf’s Klo gehen und duschen kann……….hahaha……….jaja, ich weiss nicht fuer jedermann wirklich witzig……so wird man, wenn man ‘ne Weile im Wald lebt :-))
Und es ist auch etwas sicherer………….und das ist jetzt kein Witz………..denn Frank war vor einer Weile im Wald als es ziemlich windig war und hatte Buesche geschnitten, um sich einen Weg zu seinem “Klo” freizuschneiten (ja, wir goennen uns den Luxus von getrennten Toiletten J ) und war scheinbar gegen den Wind…………er dreht sich um, weil er was gehoert hat und auf einmal steht ein grosser Schwarzbaer hinter ihm………….der konnte ihn wegen des Windes nicht wahrnehmen und die beiden haben sich einen Moment angestarrt , aber bevor Frank was tun oder sagen konnte, ist der Baer schon umgedreht und durch’s Gebuesch im Schweinegalopp weg……………ich hab am Nachmittag dann doch sicherheitshalber zwei Flaschen Baerspray gekauft………nur so zur Sicherheit 😉 !
Sonst geht aber alles seinen Gang und wir hoffen, dass kommende Woche auch unsere Bauzeichnung fertig ist und wir diese beim Bauamt einreichen koennen und dann evt. noch in diesem oder kommenden Monat das Fundament Giessen koennen………….der Betonmensch war schon da und meinte, dass er das hinbekommen koennte.
Frank hat auch zwei Quellen, wo wir unsere Baeume herbekommen koennen und wenn es genug davon gibt, werden wir rote Kiefern zum bauen nehmen…………aber die werden dieses Jahr erstmal “nur” geschlagen und geschaelt.
Wir haben mit dem Verkleiden des Campers angefangen……aber ich muss erstmal kommende Woche beim Bauamt nachfragen, ob die uns Aerger machen werden, denn bei der Groesse der Ueberbaus, muessten wir eigentlich einen Bauantrag stellen…………und die Forderungen dafuer koennen wir nur fuer eine Camperunterkunft definitive nicht erfuellen…………aber, da machen wir uns Gedanken drueber, wenn wir Fakten haben.
Fakt ist aber, dass wir in diesem Winter auf jedenfall Kunden fuer Schneebeseitigung haben !!!!
All unsere alten Kunden, haben sich sofort wieder gemeldet und wollen, dass Frank raeumt und dann hat noch ein Freund von uns seinen Betrieb geschlossen und wir haben viele seiner Kunden bekommen……alles in der alten Gegend wo wir gewohnt hatten, aber bei der Menge der Kunden macht die laengere Anfahrt sich schon bezahlt.
U.a. haben wir nun auch die Tankstelle, das Gemeindehaus, die freiwilllige Feuerwehr und einen ganzen Strassenzug als neue Kunden zu verzeichnen…………….nun muessen wir nur hoffen, dass wir den harten Winter bekommen, den der Bauernkalender vorhersagt und dann wird alles gut !
Seinen alten Job bei der Yamahawerkstatt hat Frank auch wieder sicher und kann dort jederzeit arbeiten, wann immer er will…………..besser geht’s doch nicht.
Klar gibts immer mal einen Tag wo man sich aergert, oder sagt “nee, dass muss nun wirklich nicht sein”…..aber eines ist sicher…….es war die richtige Entscheidung zurueckzukommen und wir geniessen unser Abenteuer in vollen Zuegen………….fuer uns gilt halt wirklich das Motto, dass ich auf einem T-Shirt gesehen habe und sofort gekauft habe, weil es fuer uns wie die Faust auf’s Auge passt:
“ Adventure hurts…….but monotony will only bore you”
In diesem Sinne, von denen, die Auszogen um neue Abentuer zu finden (und dabei auch manchmal maechtig auf’n Arsch zu fallen 🙂 ) …….viele, liebe Gruesse and Euch alle und geniesst das Leben……wir alle haben nur das Eine !!!!
