Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version
The past week was really productive ….. even if we only managed to finish one log, but we started filling up the ditch around the house !
After just filling up to the corner Frank wanted to give it a shot and try to drive the backhoe around the tight corner without tearing down the house…..well the four rows that are up now……and it was tight but he did it !
Not only did he manage to fill up one side but also start to level the part in front of the house where the lawn will be and we already dream about sitting and having nice BBQ’s…….always seeing the “big picture” makes us keep moving…..it’s our way of “self-motivation” 😉
The other side in front of the lake will be more of a challenge as we’ll have to fill up quite a bit more where the deck ends and there’s not much room until the lake starts. Why fill it up…..we want to have an open view to the lake and don’t want a handrail around the deck ………. but that’s a must due to building code if the height from the deck to the ground is too high.
And as we don’t have much space between deck and waterfront we can’t go around and fill up with the backhoe……but we’ll figure it out and will all that done we can start building the deck and the be able to reach the next log rows a lot easier and safer than it is right now.
By the way…….last week we posted a picture of Frank’s “neat freak tool holder”……well there’s an advanced version now 😉
Having a couple of rainy days also made us realize that we’re quite limited to things we can do during that time………so we decided to get one of those “garage in a box” so we can still work on other things even if it rains as the big shed is still full of all of boxes with all of our stuff ……….yeah, we’re still wearing the things we brought with us in the suitcase when we arrived last year 😉
But first we had to get a spot where to put it………….and decided the spot where they had dug a test hole for the septic field last year would be great………..we’d just have to fill it in again……said’n done.
This’ll have to sit for a while as it’s still wet and muddy but it’ll be a perfect spot and when we fill it up and level it with gravel it’ll work fine for us.
My firewood pile is slowly but surely growing and while Frank puts on some boards on the shed whenever he has time……I started painting them.
So we do have a lot of construction zones and sometimes we really have to focus on what to do first…..so there are no giant leaps ……but small steps…..and in the end they bring you forward too 🙂
Website updates
Besides all of that I was working on upgrading our “Nature’s Art” page to make it easier to read and also added some new things………..so if you’d like to have a look…… and please…… let us know what you think !!
And I’m totally into all the new things
I’m just researching more about soap making and finally dug out my other candle molds
……so I’m in full preparation mode for the Christmas crafts fair in New Ross 😉
Also have my “to do” wood selected and’ll start on cutting and sanding that soon too 🙂
New Blog
One other thing that happened a couple of weeks ago…….we got contacted by “Mother Earth News” who said they had a look at our blog and thought that their readers might be interested in what we’re doing and asked if we’d be willing to write blogs for them?
They asked for a “test” blog and a bio and after we had forwarded that we got approved and now officially write new blogs twice a month (they don’t re-blog …… it’s exclusively written for them) for this widely renown Website.
No, it’s not a paid job……but they also publish magazines and if we should ever make it there…… you never know 😉
This is an amazing opportunity and I still can’t believe it……….but …… in case you’re interested ….our first official blog for “Mother Earth News” and here’s the bio
Sunsets….
The day after the rain we had this awesome sunset and I just can’t believe the formation and colors !
A friend of ours who has quite a name as a photographer of “Platinum Prints” and has exhibitions all over the world actually had suggested to go and make postcards in case the candle making doesn’t pay off……well, why not….. I love to have “plan B” 😉
And as usual …..animals of the week….
There really wasn’t that much going on ……. I was just out painting the shed when I realized I had been circled by a bald eagle……..by the time I got my camera he had already took off …..so this was the best I could do with my little camera.
But then…….look who Frank almost stepped on while sanding a log
……even smaller than the one we had found first and Emmy…..well look for yourself

Deutsche Version
30. July 2017 – Mag zwar laenger dauern…..aber kleine Schritte bringen uns auch ans Ziel!
Letzte Woche war ziemlich produktiv…..auch wenn wir nur einen Stamm gesetzt haben, aber wir haben angefangen, den Graben ums Haus herum aufzufuellen!
Nachdem wir uns vorher nur bis zur Ecke mit dem Bagger vorgewagt und aufgefuellt hatten, hat Frank dann einfach mal den Versuch gestartet und hat sich doch tatsaechlich um die Ecken herum manoevrieren koennen.
Dann hat er nicht nur die eine Seite auffuellen koennen, sondern auch gleich den Teil des Grundstuecks auf der Seite angefangen zu begradigen…….dort soll mal spaeter alles Rasen sein und wir koennen nun schonmal davon traeumen dort zu sitzen und ein schoenes BBQ zu haben…….wird noch ‘ne Weile dauern, aber irgendwie muss man sich ja motivieren 😉
Die Hausseite, die direkt dem See zugewandt ist, wird allerdings nochmal ‘ne andere Hausnummer…..
Dort muessen wir ziemlich viel auffuellen, es ist nicht viel Platz bis zum Ufer und vorallem koennen wir dort definitiv nicht ranfahren……warum ueberhaupt auffuellen……lt. Bauvorschrift, darf die Terrasse nur 40 cm Absatz bis zum Boden haben, sonst muss eine Reling ran…….und dass wollen wir ueberhaupt nicht!
Die Terrasse muss auch langsam aber sicher gebaut werden, da wir nun so nicht mehr an naechsten Staemme kommen…..aber, das kriegen wir auch noch alles hin 😉
Beim letzten Blog hatte ich doch ueber Franks “Baumstammwerkzeughalter” berichtet…..nun ja, er hat sich noch eine verbesserte Version ausgedacht………nun haben auch die Kettensaegen ihren Platz 😉
Ein paar Regentage haben uns gezeigt, wie sehr wir doch eingeschraenkt sind in den Moeglichkeiten andere Dinge in der Zeit zu machen, einfach weil es uns an Platz fehlt und obwohl der Schuppen riesig ist…….ist der noch immer bis an den Rand mit all unserem Hab und Gut gefuellt. Also haben wir uns entschlossen, eine dieser Kunststoffgaragen zu besorgen, aber, um die dann mal aufzustellen, mussten wir erstmal einen Platz schaffen.
Dort, wo letztes Jahr eines der Testloecher fuer das Abwasserfeld gebuddelt wurde und das Loch nun nur Emmy als “Abkuehlbecken” gedient hat, schien geeignet…..musste nur wieder aufgefuellt werden, also gesagt, getan….
Der Boden wird sich noch eine Weile setzen muessen, da es doch noch ziemlich matschig ist, aber sobald es ein wenig ausgetrocknet ist, kommt noch Kies rauf und dann kann’s losgehen mit dem Aufbau.
Mein Feuerholzstapel nimmt auch langsam Form an und waehrend Frank jeden Abend noch ein paar Bretter an den Schuppen bringt und das auch Stueck fuer Stueck vorangeht, pinsel ich immer mal wieder ein paar an und so duerfte das dann in ein paar Wochen durch sein.
Zugegebenermassen haben wir viele offene und angefangene Baustellen und manchmal weiss man gar nicht, was man zuerst machen soll………..aber jeder kleine Fortschritt bringt uns wieder einen Schritt voran und motiviert uns zum Weitermachen.

Nebenbei habe ich aber auch noch etwas an der “Nature’s Art” Seite gearbeitet, damit man sich in der Rubrik einfacher zurechtfinden kann und auch gleich noch ein paar Dinge erweitert, von denen wir hoffen, dass sie Euch interessieren koennten…………und bitte, lasst uns wissen was Ihr davon haltet !!
Allerdings gleich im Voraus…………Entschuldigung, dass es z Z nur auf Englisch ist……die Uebersetzung ist in Arbeit und folgt bald……….Versprochen !!!
Dann wird noch fleissig ueber neue Seifentechniken recherchiert und ich habe tatsaechlich nach langem Suchen im Schuppen meine Kiste mit Kerzengussformen gefunden…..ein paar Beispiele dazu…
……….es kann also losgehen mit den Vorbereitungen fuer den Weihnachtsmarkt in New Ross 😉
Natuerlich habe ich auch ein riesiges Sammelsurium an Holz zusammengetragen und werde bald mit dem Schleifen und Bohren anfangen 🙂 !!
Neuer Blog
Eine andere Sache, die vor ein paar Wochen passiert ist…..wir sind von der online Zeitschrift “Mother Earth News” kontaktiert worden, die meinten, dass sie auf unseren Blog gestossen waeren und glauben, dass ihre Leser an dem, was wir so treiben interessiert sein koennten und ob wir Willens waeren, fuer sie extra einen Blog zu verfassen?
Sie wollten noch einen ersten Testblog haben und eine ausfuehrliche Biografie und haben danach entschieden, dass sie uns gern als Blogger aufnehmen wuerden und wir zweimal monatlich einen Blogpost fuer sie verfassen sollen, da sie keine alten Blogs wiederveroeffentlichen, sondern “Exclusivmaterial” haben moechten.
Nee, leider kein bezahlter Job, wenn es um solche Art von “bloggen” geht………aber das online Magazin gehoert zu einem Vertrieb, der auch Zeitschriften veroeffentlicht und sollte einmal etwas auf Papier uebernommen werden, dann……….wer weiss, vlt passiert das da mal 😉 …….aber, bis dahin freuen wir uns super ueber das Angebot und die Moeglichkeit zu schreiben…………..wollt Ihr mal reinsehen……hier der Blogpost und hier die Biografie.
Sonnenuntergaenge
Am Tag nach dem Regen hatten wir diesen unglaublichen Sonnenuntergang…..was fuer Formen und Farben !
Ein Freund von uns, der einen ziemlichen Namen als Fotograf von “Platinum Prints” hat, schlug vor, ich sollte doch ins Postkartengeschaeft einsteigen, wenn’s mit dem Kerzenverkauft nicht so laeuft…..werde ich auf jedenfall im Hinterkopf behalten……….immer gut “Plan B” zu haben 😉
Und wie ueblich………die Tiere der Woche….
Diese Woche war nicht all zu viel los, was Tiersichtungen anging………allerdings war ich gerade draussen und am Streichen, als ich sah, das ein Weisskopfadler ueber mir seine Kreise zog…..naja, bis ich los bin und meine Kamera geholt hatte, war er schon am wegfliegen……….das ist also das Beste, was ich dann noch mit meiner kleinen Digitalknipse einfangen konnte.
Aber…..seht mal, wo Frank beinahe draufgetreten waere, als er am Staemme schleifen war…….sogar noch kleiner als der, ueber den wir hier berichtet hatten…….

Dieser Bullmastiff ist schon ‘ne Nummer fuer sich 😉
Und dann haben wir den Kleinen aber wieder weggebracht und Tschuess gesagt,,,,
